SZN ISO POD 3
Yay we made it to 3 podcasts!
SZN ISO POD 3 really has such a vibe! I’m calling this theme the Deep South, we’re talking rollin’ blues and ramblin’ conversation. These are my go to tunes when I’m in the studio and hunkering down in production mode.
The conversation from within lockdown, is a sign of the times it was recorded in, so while we hesitated to release it now, I thought why not for posterity’s sake. We discuss the ISO feels, music inspiration, sampling and appropriation, zeitgeist and my early fashion school days.
Join me and co-host Christian Biko from Radio Biko on a musical journey!
Episode Notes:
Iso-Cray: A Story of Melbourne Locked Down
Help the Poor - Eric Clapton & BB King
Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens - Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five
Hound Dog - Big Mama Thornton
Summertime - The Zombies
Have Mercy Baby - James Brown
Frenzy - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Beyond Here Lies Nothin' - Bob Dylan
Down in Mexico - The Coasters
Mercy on My Soul - Everlast, Warren Haynes
Blue Black Jack - Mos Def (Yassin Bey)
Thanks for listening to the SZN ISO POD, we hope there'll be no more need for the ISO part (ever again), but that we can still bring to you amazing music post lockdown.
To listen to this playlist without my dulcet tones and commentary, the full playlist can be found here on Spotify.
You may be wondering why I decided to do a podcast? As well as being a designer, I also DJ as a side hustle and listen to a lot of music both in our St Collins pop up store, and in the studio. Its often led to great conversations with visitors to the store, and I invite you to come hang and listen to a few tunes. These podcasts represent some of my favourite and unexpected song selections, my musings on what I’ve been listening to, and a chat with my co-host Christian Biko from Radio Biko about music and life.
Thanks to City of Melbourne for grant support which made putting these podcasts together possible.
